Setting up a group of midwives based in the local community, to provide that continuity to women wanting a home birth, is what Neighbourhood Midwives is all about.
Our midwives will see you either in your own home or in a local clinic during your pregnancy. They will organise all your scans and blood tests for you and, when you go into labour, they will attend you at home, providing a familiar face and a trusted professional presence during the birth.
Should you need to transfer into hospital for any reason, they will be able to organise this quickly and efficiently, remaining with you until the baby is safely born.
Throughout the early days and weeks of your new baby’s life, your midwife will be able to offer consistent breastfeeding advice and support as well as ensuring you are recovering well.
We understand childbirth is as much a social and emotional event as a physical one. As well as respecting the physiology of birth, our midwives will support women through their transition into motherhood, with all the rich range of emotions and challenges it brings.
To access our services, your local commissioners will need to have a contract with us. We hope to be working in your area soon.

"Knowing my midwife and who would be with me for labour stopped me being scared and embarrassed as she knew me and what was important to me. I was able to enjoy it without anxiety and she became part of the family".
